During the ultrasound examination, a skilled sonographer will use a transducer to obtain images of the area being examined. These images are processed by a computer to generate the ultrasound image, allowing for diagnosis.
The sonographer will generate a written clinical report. Urgent reports are marked as "URGENT" and sent via NHS email within 24 hours. Non-urgent reports are sent within 48 hours. Your registered general practice will inform you about the results.
Yes, in most cases, you are welcome to bring a companion or family member to accompany you during the ultrasound examination.
